Getting Started
In this unit, children begin to explore water. During this first week children will:
- Explore what happens when they pour water onto different surfaces
- Learn that a liquid takes on the shape of its container
- Use different tools to move water, observing and describing how the water moves using the tools
- Learn about the different ways people around the world collect, carry, and store water as they listen to the read-aloud book A Cool Drink of Water by Barbara Kerley
- Be introduced to the properties of water as they listen to I Get Wet by Vicki Cobb
- Discover how a river starts, grows, and flows as they watch the Between the Lions video “River Story”
- Review the letter “Ww,” the beginning sound /w/, and learn the word water
