Getting Started
In this final week of the unit, children will explore what happens when a rolling ball hits an obstacle. Children will:
- Continue to build their own ramps
- Introduce obstacles to their explorations with balls and ramps and observe how the obstacles move
- Investigate the different ways moving objects and obstacles respond when they collide
- Consider how the characteristics of obstacles, such as weight and shape, and the steepness of the ramp might cause different results
- Listen to the read-aloud books Samantha on a Roll and Ten on the Sled to learn more about what happens when things roll and slide
- Compare their experiences with obstacles to the children’s experiences in the PEEP and the Big Wide World videos “Building Ramps” and “Homemade Hills”
- Be introduced to the letter “Hh,” the beginning sound /h/, and the word hill
