Getting Started
In this last week of the “Making Music” unit, children will explore how they respond to different types of music, both emotionally and through dance. During this week, children will:
- Explore instruments and the qualities of the sounds they make
- Discuss how music makes them feel and compare how different styles of music affect them
- Explore moving to different styles of music and reflecting on their experiences
- Begin to make their own music using their voices and toy instruments
- Begin to collaborate making music and performing together
- Listen to the read-aloud books Kitchen Dance by Maurie Manning and My Family Plays Music by Judy Cox to be introduced to new sound vocabulary and learn about how people come together to make music
- Be introduced to the letter “Ii,” the letter sound /i/, and the word instrument
