Everyday Toys

Ordinary objects and everyday items make great toys for your toddler. You’ve probably noticed that when your toddler has received something in a box, he is as interested in the box as what is inside it. Unstructured play materials allow your child to create!

  • A piece of fabric can be a cape, blanket, picnic cloth, or tent.
  • A large empty box can be a car, bus, airplane, house, hiding place, nest, or tunnel.
  • A paper towel tube can be a microphone, telescope, horn, or baton.

Encourage your toddler to explore objects in your home, and let him decide if the laundry basket is a train car, a good place to read a book, or a cage for his stuffed animals.
