Read aloud Ten Dirty Pigs/Ten Clean Pigs by Carol Roth to individuals or small groups. As you read, ask children to point to and count the pigs on each page. Point to the matching numeral on the number chart.

When you finish reading the first part of the book, ask a child to close the book and turn it upside down to begin the second story. Explain the meaning of unfamiliar words such as grime, grit, pose, primp, and slime.
