Review the Week Together, Unit 8, Week 2

Display the read-aloud books The Ugly Vegetables by Grace Lin and Chicks and Salsa by Aaron Reynolds. Look at and praise children’s artwork, writing, and charts displayed around the room. Talk about what children did and learned this week, including their work in the Learning Centers. Say,

• This week we learned about foods that come from roots and leaves. Tell me a food that comes from a (root/leaf/flower).
• We went to a community garden to explore plants. Tell me one way the plants at the garden were similar to the plants you are growing. Tell me one way they were different.
• We read The Ugly Vegetables and Chicks and Salsa. Both books talk about the aroma of food. Tell me one food from one of these books that you think has a good aroma.
• We learned the letter “Vv,” the letter sound /v/, and the word vegetable. Can you tell me another word that begins with the /v/ sound like in vegetable?
