Greeting Song: “Sing, Sing, Sing with Me” #9
ELA Focus Skills: Follow Directions, Matching, Name Recognition, Phonological Awareness (Rhythm and Repetition)
This greeting lets children practice matching and lets you easily check attendance. Give children their name cards. Explain that as you sing the greeting song, you will point to a name on the class chart. Say, If I point to your name on the chart, hold up your name card. Then bring it up so we can see that it matches!
Demonstrate the routine with a volunteer. As you sing the last line of the song, point to that child’s name on the chart. Have him or her stand, bring the name card, and match it with his or her name on the chart. Then have the child give you the name card and sit back down. Repeat the routine until all children have recognized and matched their names.
Sing, Sing, Sing with Me
(sung to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)
Sing, sing, sing with me,
Sing out loud and clear.
Happily, happily, happily, happily,
We’re glad that <child’s name> is here.
