Tell children you are going to sing a song about colors in the clothes they are wearing today. Say, Listen closely, so you will know to stand up when you hear me sing about a color you are wearing.
Sing “If You’re Wearing” and invite children to join in. Be sure to sing about a color each child is wearing. If needed, help children identify the color in their clothes.
If You’re Wearing
(to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”)
If you’re wearing blue or green,
Blue or green, blue or green,
If you’re wearing blue or green,
Won't you please stand up.
If you’re wearing red or yellow,
Red or yellow, red or yellow,
If you’re wearing red or yellow,
Won't you please stand up.
If you’re wearing brown or white,
Brown or white, brown or white,
If you’re wearing brown or white,
Won't you please stand up.
Now . . . if you’re standing, please sit down,
Please sit down, please sit down,
If you’re standing, please sit down,
Everyone sit down.
Take It Further: Sing the song a second time, and this time have each child describe whether his or her article of clothing is a light or dark shade of the color.
